The Route: Junagadh to Somnath by Road
Primary Route (Recommended)
The most direct and well-maintained route from Junagadh to Somnath is via Veraval:
Junagadh → Visavadar → Sasan Gir → Veraval → Somnath
This route (approximately 85–90 km) passes through the edge of Gir forest, offering scenic views and an opportunity to stop at Sasan Gir National Park en route. The roads are well-maintained with good signage throughout.
Why This Route Is Popular
The Sasan Gir stretch makes this route particularly attractive. Many travellers choose to combine a Gir lion safari (at Sasan Gir, just 40 km short of Somnath) with the Somnath darshan in a single day trip. Our drivers can time the itinerary to include a morning safari and an afternoon darshan — all from Junagadh and back.

What to See Along the Way
Sasan Gir National Park
Located approximately 45 km from Junagadh on this route, Sasan Gir is the last home of the Asiatic lion. If you're planning a one-day Junagadh–Gir–Somnath trip, we recommend booking a morning jeep safari at Gir first (6:30 AM start), then proceeding to Somnath for the afternoon aarti. This is one of our most popular same-day packages.
Veraval
Veraval is the coastal fishing town just 6 km from Somnath. You'll pass through it en route. It's worth a 15-minute stop for fresh seafood if you're not strictly vegetarian (note: Somnath itself is a largely vegetarian town near the temple).
Somnath Temple: Essential Visitor Information
The Somnath Jyotirlinga temple is open from 6 AM to 10 PM daily. The three daily aartis are:
- Morning Aarti: 7:00 AM
- Midday Aarti: 12:00 PM
- Evening Aarti: 7:00 PM
The evening aarti at 7 PM, followed by the famous Sound and Light show at 8 PM, is the most atmospheric experience. Mobile phones are not allowed inside the temple.

Best Way to Combine Junagadh–Somnath with Other Destinations
Option 1: Junagadh → Sasan Gir → Somnath (One Day)
Start early from Junagadh (5:30 AM), do the Gir morning safari (6:30–9:30 AM), have breakfast at a dhaba near Sasan, then drive to Somnath (40 km, 50 mins) for midday aarti. Return to Junagadh by evening. This is our most popular single-day combo.
Option 2: Junagadh → Somnath → Diu (Two Days)
Day 1: Junagadh to Somnath (darshan + evening light show). Day 2: Somnath to Diu (90 km) for a beach day, then return via Junagadh. A perfect weekend trip.
Our Junagadh–Somnath cab can be booked for a same-day return or one-way drop. We recommend leaving Junagadh before 8 AM to catch the morning aarti at 7 AM if timing permits — or plan for the evening aarti and light show instead.
